I had the fun of hiking again at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park recently. It was totally enjoyable little walk as I discover the Magic of MacRitchie Treetop Walk in Singapore. You will enjoy the hike to the suspension bridge with wildlife as you walk the trail through the MacRitchie reservoir park.
It was a while ago that I did the YELLOW TRAIL in the same MacRitchie Reservoir and I was glad to be back !
What is MacRitchie Treetop Walk?
The MacRitchie Treetop Walk is an awesome suspension bridge in Singapore’s MacRitchie Reservoir. Stretching 250 meters long and hovering 25 meters above the forest, it offers killer views and a cool way to check out the areaβs wildlife from above. Opened in 2004, it’s a must-visit for anyone who digs nature walks and birdwatching. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a unique spot to escape the city hustle and get some fresh air among the treetops.
Getting to MacRitchie Treetop Walk
As usual, we will park at the MacRitchie Car Park and walk into the reservoir. Beautiful morning.
And we will start at the Lornie Trail, as usual.
This is the route (in blue) that we will take today to MacRitchie Treetop Walk. You can see the red arrow at the bottom where we have parked and then talk a slow walk to the start of the Lornie Trail..
At the entrance of Lornie Trail, you can choose to walk the Chemperai Broadwalk which will be a walk along the “coast line” of the reservoir (which I did during my last walk at MacRitchie, you can read about it in the link above).
For today’s walk, I did not walk the boardwalk but into the actual Lornie Trail (which I think was under some repair during my previous walk).
From the entrance of Lornie Trail, it is a 6.7km walk to Treetop Walk.
The walk takes you into a nice “jungle” path.. I really enjoy such walks.. peaceful..
A nice hut for you to rest.. the Chemperai Hut..
There is still a chance to do another broad walk (if you choose to not do the Chemperai Broadwalk). This time it is called the Jering Boardwalk.
But today I am a forest guy.. so I am going to go ahead to take the LEFT side into the “jungle”.
After a walk, it is just 4.6km to the Treetop Walk.
My favourite part of the walk is the country club walk π
Got a nice shot on my way to Treetop Walk
And almost there..
After the Golf Course, you will reach the Jelutong Tower. I climbed up the other time and the view is special. This time, I am walking on to my target destination of Treetop Walk. Just 1.5 km more to go π
If you reach Petaling Hut, you are really near to the ENTRANCE to the Treetop Walk segment. Petaling Hut is near to the EXIT of the Treetop Walk segment of MacRitchie Reservoir.
No Entrance to the EXIT π
And here’s the entrance to Treetop Walk. Almost miss it π
It is a paved upward sloping walk…..
Treetop Walk Opening Hours
Welcome to my coming too early π
Treetop Walk is open from Tuesday to Friday 9am to 5pm. On Public Holidays, it is open from 8:30am to 5pm. The last entry is 4:45pm. It is closed on Mondays except if Monday is a public holiday.
So I was about 30 mins early to the opening hours and I have a monkey to accompany me while I waited..
At the MacRitchie Treetop Walk
The treetop walk was doing some major upgrade and I can tell as there is this new hut now at the entrance into the walk.
And here we go… Treetop Walk is a suspension bridge over trees so if you have fears of height, then it might be a little problem but honestly it is not too bad…. it is nice..
Very nice views at the middle of the Treetop Walk
I love this photograph
Actually once you are done with the suspension bridge over the forest, you walk further and you have yet another bridge but not exactly over the forest. More comfortable.
Getting Back from Treetop Walk
Now do not look down on the walk BACK from Treetop Walk. It took a while (and a pretty long walk as you are very tired by now from the end of Treetop Walk back to the exit of the Treetop Walk segment, aka Petaling Hut.
Then from there, you have a decision to make. Do you complete the YELLOW ROUTE back to the MacRitchie Reservoir Car Park or do you take a shorter walk to
To walk to Venus Car Park is 3.6km and a walk back to the starting point is 5.9km. You choose..
I chose to walk to Venus Car Park at the Windsor Nature Park. In other words, this blue route shows my walk back from Treetop Walk.
To be honest, it was a hard walk as I was pretty tired by then. I suggest pacing yourself and maybe take a longer rest at Petaling Hut before starting the walk back to whatever you want to.
The walk back takes you past Venus Link, which is a pavement along some “secret” area that no photography is allowed π
I finished the walk at Windsor Nature Park and took a grab back to the entrance of the MacRitchie Car Park.
Total Distance from MacRitchie Car Park to Windsor Nature Park
The total distance for my walk from MacRitchie Car Park to Windsor Nature Park was 10.42km. This, of course, includes the walk into the Treetop Walk loop (yes it is a loop).
This is the Runkeeper Map of my walk from MacRitchie Car Park, to the Treetop Walk and then back to Windsor Nature Park.
It was a nice walk to the newly upgraded Treetop Walk. It was tiring and I think I need a good rest after this. If you find this reservoir walk too long, then you might want to consider the 3km one at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park : A Simple 3km Walk !
But if you like to see monkeys, at least in this park, this monkey is not showing me a middle finger. You know who π
